“Can science and innovation build a more sustainable food chain?”

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (DG Sanco) are hosting the conference “Can science and innovation build a more sustainable food chain” under the auspices of the Italian Government.

This conference, on the opening day of the international food fair Cibus, will focus on the possible contribution of science and innovation in building up a more sustainable food chain.

The European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Affairs, Mr. John Dalli, will deliver a keynote address entitled “Can innovation in the EU food industry meet the demands of EU consumers?". In a round table discussion key actors will afterwards explore how various parties can contribute to a sustainable food chain. The role of policy makers at national and European level and manners in which to stimulate sustainable innovation will be among the issues discussed.

The conference will bring together representatives from national and European institutions, consumer organisations, industry, research institutes and universities. Participation is by invitation only.
