Info Session: (Re-)Evaluating Food Additives

Presentations are now available.

Background

EFSA’s expert Panel on Food Additives and Flavourings (FAF) is responsible for assessing the safety of new food additives and new uses of permitted food additives. Furthermore, it has been conducting re-evaluations of all food additives authorised for use in the EU before 20 January 2009, under Regulation EC 1333/2008. As the current FAF Panel 2018-2024 nears the end of its term, EFSA convened a stakeholder meeting to take stock of the work carried out on food additives over these years and to discuss future challenges and developments.

Objectives of the meeting

EFSA organised an info session with interested stakeholders on food additives. The meeting was held on 19 and 20 of March 2024 in Parma and was also webstreamed. The aim of the info session was to provide insights into recent, ongoing and future assessments, as well as the ongoing revision of the 2012 ANS Panel’s food additive guidance for submission for food additive evaluations.

During the meeting EFSA replied to participants’ questions and to questions received during the registration phase for attending the info session.
