Ad hoc meeting with stakeholders - Workshop on “Emerging chemical risks for public health and the environment”

On 26-27 September 2024, EFSA organised a hybrid workshop on “Emerging chemical risks for public health and the environment” with representatives of Member State competent authorities, the European Commission, and other EU agencies (ECHA, EEA, EMA and EU-OSHA).

The aim was to present the EFSA’s activities on identification of emerging chemicals and discuss how to optimise the exchange of information on emerging chemicals with institutional stakeholders. The workshop contributed to the ongoing discussions related to the establishment of an early warning and action system for emerging chemical risks, foreseen in the context of the legislative proposals on chemicals assessment.

The workshop has relied on the enthusiastic participation of the involved stakeholders who have agreed on few practical action points aiming at intensifying the exchange of information and leading to the harmonisation of terminology. This is seen as a fundamental step supporting the EEA in the design of the forthcoming Early Warning System.
