Parma Summer School 2024

Background

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) – in collaboration with the University of Parma, the School of Advanced Studies on Food and Nutrition, and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Piacenza – is organising the 2024 Parma Summer School. The event will provide early-career professionals an invaluable chance to learn from specialists in the field about artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential applications in the food safety system.

During the three-day programme, participants will explore different aspects related to the use of AI and delve into its potential applications in the food safety system. They will do so through a multifaceted lens, looking at risk management, risk assessment, and societal considerations, and drawing upon various disciplines.

Please find more information on the dedicated Parma Summer School website.

Objectives of the event

Given the interrelatedness and complex nature of the topics covered, multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder approaches will be employed. The topics will be addressed with a focus on four different key areas:

•    AI and the EU regulatory framework
•    Food safety and risk assessment
•    Sustainability in the food safety system
•    Social and behavioural sciences

Who should attend?

The Summer School is primarily targeted at PhD students and early-career researchers, as well as other scientists, academics, and representatives of public institutions, non-governmental organisations and EU agencies. Participation is limited to a maximum of 300 participants. A selection will be made to ensure geographical balance and fair representation of all stakeholder groups in the audience.
