Stakeholder workshop on the next update of the EFSA Guidance on Non-Dietary Exposure to Pesticides
28 March 2022, 13:30 – 17:00 (CET)
Summary
The overall aim of the workshop was to discuss the availability of evidence for the next update of the Guidance on the assessment of exposure of operators, workers, residents and bystanders in risk assessment for plant protection products (OPEX Guidance). 140 participants attended from EU institutions/agencies, EU and non-EU national authorities, private sector, universities/public research institutes and other affiliations categories.
After an overview on the recent amendments to the OPEX Guidance, a mid-term vision on future steps and methodology for the collection and assessment of evidence (as captured in the ‘State of the art and perspective’ document) was presented by EFSA. Also, stakeholders’ feedback on the priorities to be addressed in the next update was introduced, as collected through a survey preliminary to the event. Representatives from a Member State, industry and university provided summary information on finalised, ongoing and future projects in the field of non-dietary exposure to pesticides. During the open discussion session, more details on the presented projects were given by the presenters as asked by the audience.
During the concluding remarks, agreed priorities were confirmed as well as areas that need further development.
