BfR expert meeting on endocrine disruptors

Prominent scientists discussed the topic of endocrine disruptors at an expert meeting held by Germany’s Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). The experts signed a consensus statement on “Scientific principles for the determination of endocrine disrupting properties of chemicals”. The statement and related documents are available on the BfR website:

The European Commission is developing scientific criteria for defining endocrine disruptors that will be applied for scientific assessments carried out in several areas of EU regulation, including pesticides, food additives and food contact materials.

EFSA’s Scientific Committee was asked for scientific advice in support of this task and published a Scientific Opinion on “the hazard assessment of endocrine disruptors: Scientific criteria for identification of endocrine disruptors and appropriateness of existing test methods for assessing effects mediated by these substances on human health and the environment” in 2013.
