Public consultation on a Guidance Document on Risk Assessment to be revised under the auspices of the Panel on plant protection products and their residues (PPR)

The PPR Panel is requested to revise the Guidance Document on Risk Assessment for Birds and Mammals. This working document supports notifiers and Member States in the conduction of risk assessment for birds and mammals in the context of Council Directive 91/414/EEC.

The Panel onplant protection products and their residues deals with questions on the safety of plant protection products for the user/worker, the consumer of treated products, and the environment.

The Working Document: Guidance Document on Risk Assessment for Birds and Mammals under Council Directive 91/414/EEC (SANCO/4145/2000 – final 25 September 2002) has been conceived as a working document of the Commission Services which was elaborated in co-operation with the Member States. This document intends to provide guidance to notifiers and Member States on how to conduct a risk assessment for birds and mammals in the context of the review of active substances for inclusion in Annex I of Directive 91/414/EEC. The document should be updated to take on board advances in scientific understanding as the necessity arises. Since the responsibility to produce new or revise existing Guidance Documents dealing with risk assessment has been transferred to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the PPR Panel is requested to provide a revised version of this Guidance Document.
