Organismi geneticamente modificati
Il gruppo di esperti scientifici sugli organismi geneticamente modificati (GMO) fornisce pareri scientifici indipendenti sulla sicurezza degli alimenti e mangimi, sulla valutazione del rischio ambientale e sulla caratterizzazione molecolare/botanica. Le sue attività riguardano prevalentemente piante , microrganismi e animali geneticamente modificati.
I membri del gruppo scientifico GMO sono scienziati di tutta Europa competenti in:
- Valutazione della sicurezza di alimenti e mangimi (piante, microrganismi, animali geneticamenete modificati). Tossicologia alimentare e genetica, immunologia, allergia alimentare, nutrizione umana e animale, esposizione alimentare, biochimica e metabolismo, chimica degli alimenti, statistiche sull’analisi composizionale e disegno degli studi sul campo, test di alimentazione animale
- Valutazione del rischio ambientale (piante geneticamente modificate (GM), microrganismi GM e animali GM). Ecologia degli insetti e dinamica delle popolazioni, ecologia vegetale, ecologia molecolare, ecotossicologia, biologia vegetale, patologia vegetale, fisiologia vegetale, malerbologia, servizi ecosistemici, scienza del suolo (organismi del terreno, processi biochimici, processi abiotici), genetica della popolazione vegetale, evoluzione della resistenza in organismi nocivi bersaglio (entomologia, protezione delle colture), ripartizione geografica e ambienti riceventi, scienza degli organismi nocivi (protezione delle piante), impatto dell'agricoltura sulla biodiversità, flusso genetico verticale, flusso genetico orizzontale, persistenza e invasività (malerbe), impatto sugli organismi non bersaglio (entomologia, ecologia), modellazione matematica, statistica e biometria, disegno sperimentale (disegno degli studi sul campo, disegno dei test in laboratorio), agronomia, sistemi di coltivazione e pratiche agricole
- Caratterizzazione molecolare e botanica. Struttura ed evoluzione del genoma, regolazione dell’espressione genica, stabilità del genoma, bioinformatica, miglioramento genetico vegetale, biologia molecolare, fisiologia vegetale e microbica, biochimica e metabolismo (piante, microrganismi), proteomica, trascrittomica, genomica, trasformazione genetica, biologia vegetale, microbiologia alimentare, resistenza agli antibiotici, modellazione matematica, trasferimento genico orizzontale, analisi dell’espressione, analisi delle proteine, microbiologia ambientale, genetica, ecologia.

Plenary meetings
Meetings with Member States
Meetings with Member States bring together GMO Panel experts and technical experts from Member States to discuss scientific issues and exchange views on various aspects of GMO risk assessment. Depending on the context, these meetings can be bilateral, involving experts from one Member State, or networking meetings, with experts from several Member States.

Networks
What are EFSA's networks?
EFSA’s networks consist of nationally appointed EU Member State organisations with expertise in the fields covered by the network. Representatives of the Commission and of other organisations (including those from outside the EU) with specific expertise may also be invited to participate in the work of EFSA Networks.
Networks are chaired by EFSA and supported by relevant EFSA units. Their aim is to facilitate scientific cooperation in the field of EFSA’s mission by:
- coordinating activities,
- exchanging information,
- developing and implementing joint projects,
- and exchanging expertise and best practices.

Risk assessment of GMOs
The objective of this network is to build mutual understanding of the principles underlying the risk assessment of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and to provide increased transparency in the current process between Member States and EFSA.
